On Mount Everest : EI Weekend 3284
This weekend is devoted to Everest, the world’s highest mountain with even a modest parish twist.
Exchange Invest is a unique information resource combining the day’s stories in a newsletter for investors in exchanges/financial markets infrastructure.
Exchange Invest was founded by former exchange CEO and author of the first bestselling book of fintech (“Capital Market Revolution!” FT 1999) Patrick Young. Monday through Friday our daily paid subscriber email discusses the business of bourses of all kinds across the world.
On this day in 2013, NASDAQ London Exchange (“NLX”) was launched with much fanfare as a competitor in STIRs and yield curve products with ICE and EUREX.

IN BIGWORLD
From Exchange Invest 3276:
A fascinating story in the South China Morning Post a few weeks back continues to intrigue me (‘Big Impact’: Russian Goods Seizures Cause Havoc On China-Europe Rail Link).
In essence that magnificent “Belt and Road” network created by China has had some issues of late. Some folks in Europe have been ordering stuff off Alibaba, Shein or wherever and the parcel gets popped on the train by that nice Mrs Wong or somebody in say downtown Hangzhou. The problem is the parcel can move seamlessly across the rail network but then hits a problem when it reaches customs at the Russian border.
Thus the freight land route China-Europe is de facto closed for business. (For passenger traffic, the spectacle of seeing uniformed Russian railways staff saluting as their train heads from Warsaw Central to Moscow has now been replaced with a service which only goes to Minsk after Russian trains were cut off from Europe post Ukraine invasion).
BITCARNAGE
Crime Growth Spot
The Bloomberg headline Crypto Crime Is The Future. Bank Heists Are History serves as an apt reminder that nowadays it’s tough enough finding a bank branch, let alone which one might actually have enough cash to make it worthwhile going all Ocean’s umpteen.
Not far removed from bank robbery is of course pure play larceny as Yahoo Finance notes: Coinbase Hack Reveals Crypto Vulnerability To Old-School Crime: Bribery, that too is a big thing in contemporary crypto (crime) it seems too.

PLY: As a co founder and initially director of Intrade (before the ill-fated idiocy of entering the unregulated US market), I left before John became CEO. He struck me as delusional to the point of perhaps …how can I say this nicely and not speak ill of the departed… Somewhat akin to kind a proto crypto bro? Anyway, Ron Bernstein was very diplomatic here as he went on to try to rescue the business after John’s Everest dream turned terminal nightmare.
