On this day in 2012, Bank of England Governor Mervyn King said the country would launch a scheme to provide cheap long-term funding to banks to encourage them to lend to businesses and consumers. As a child I can recall the mania around the Charles Berlitz popularized the legend of the Bermuda Triangle in his best-selling book The Bermuda Triangle (1974). Amongst other claims, Berlitz postulated that the fabled lost island of Atlantis was somehow responsible for the disappearances.
On the other hand, the World Wildlife Fund conducted an extensive survey of maritime shipping lanes in 2013 and determined that the Bermuda Triangle is not one of the world’s 10 most dangerous bodies of water for shipping.
